Sand Castles

Stands the test of time

Living in a state by the coast usually means that we take a beach trip during the year. Through the years, I have enjoyed the days spent on the beach: sleeping or playing on the sand. Building sand castles is usually a part of the days activities. "Drip Castles" are my favorite. Letting wet sand dribble from my fingertips creates a cool looking castle. During those days, I have noticed that lots of families are creating their own creations in the sand (even burying a family member or two). Thousands of people are creating medieval abodes up and down the shoreline. Unfortunately, all of it is washed away when the high tide arrives. In seconds, the sandy creations are washed away by the waves. It makes me think about some of the activities in our daily lives that take so much of our time and energy. So many of our endeavors engulf all that we can give, but give back nothing with eternal value.

As the children of God, we are blessed by having a relationship with the Eternal God, the Everlasting Father. Wow! As the children of God, we have the opportunity to experience the One who is Eternal and the things that are eternal. 1 Peter 1 reminds us of a few of those eternal things. It states in verses 3-5, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time." Along with this future inheritance, right now, we become new creations from imperishable seed through the living and enduring word of God. Praise God that His word endures forever. Praise God that He allows us to be a part of experiencing a relationship with Him and building what is eternal in this life.
